The skill we all are slowly losing

Our generation cannot digest big chucks of information anymore. We can’t watch 2 hour movie in one sitting any longer. If we see a video on YouTube that 20 minutes long, we immediately skip it and scroll on. When we stumble upon a huge article, we skim through it, trying to understand the key points, and then we close it. We suppose that we’ve studied it, that we’ve got what we needed. Yet is that true?

Why do you think social media has gained such astronomical popularity? Because they provide us with the ability to communicate faster than ever? No. Because they connect us to the outside world? No. I reckon they became popular because they are nothing more than novel, heavy, legal drugs.

Every time you read a short post on the Instagram, your brain releases dopamine, serotonin, and other hormones that make you feel good. You watch a clip on TikTok and the identical process takes place. You glance at the news, the same thing occurs. You don’t have to strain yourself. It is unnecessary to push yourself. Your brain simply rewards you for small, useless achievements. He is still in that Stone Age, when every bit of knowledge was precious and rare as hell. It doesn’t matter that the data we stored into our memory is a lie or useless. We don’t care that our attention span is shrinking. Our primary focus is that it brings out temporary, positive emotions inside of us. However, does that junk touch upon all arguments? Are we able to remember everything we learned? Or did we waste our precious time and energy that we could spend on something else? I think the answer is obvious.

We have to teach our minds to love long-term pleasure again. For the quickest results, I advise you to delete all your social media accounts, throw your phone out of the window and pick up a damn book. Nevertheless, I can’t do that and you probably too. It’s stupid to deny beneficial aspects of the modern technology. I’m sure that you heavily depend on that wonderful piece of stainless steel in your pocket. Therefore, we need to acquire the skill of using it properly. Limit your daily phone usage or the hours you spend on TikTok, Instagram and other garbage. Start binging on lengthy YouTube videos, on reading 5000-word articles. Who is in the control of your life: your smartphone or you? You got to train your mind and focus to succeed and experience true fulfillment. It’s going to be uncomfortable, I know, but I promise you won’t regret that.
